- Prepare the trainee by taking care to relax them. Lots of people find learning new things very stressful procedure.
- Explain the job, task, skill or project and discuss the method. Explain the standards, the necessary tools and the equipment or systems.
- Provide a step by step demonstration. The more complex, the more steps. People cannot absorb a whole complicated task all in one go, thus break it down and show the correct way. Do not forget to seek feedback and check understanding.
- Have the trainee practice the job, as we all learn best by actually doing it . According to Confucius: "I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand".
- Always monitor the progress, give positive feedback, coach and adapt according to the pace of the group.
